Stormchasing USA style. Myself & 3 friends from www.ukstorm.net went to the States for the annual chase season. This is some video I threw together from that trip.

A safe return from Scotland & a couple of unexpected surprises during the trip. The main reason was to find some suitable locations for photography of the Aurora Borealis for when the UK gets a strong enough impact. While I was up there sunspot 1283 released a flare strong enough to give us a potential show. Several nights of cloud cover scuppered this & on the final night we found some broken sky & got more than expected. Account & images will be in the BLOG. Images also in the Aurora Gallery.

We also intercepted what was left of Hurricane Katia at Ayr, we’d gone a little to far south & missed the strongest winds but they were strong enough to cause us trouble with our balance in the stronger gusts which we measured at 40-50 mph. Again Images will be posted in the BLOG once they’re processed.

Upcoming plans for immediate future.

A photographic holiday to the Lake District in mid October. I’m really looking forward to this as it has to be England’s finest gem. Even on rainy or gloomy days the countryside still lends itself to beautiful images & with the increase in solar activity my eyes will be firmly on the night sky.

A return to Scotland at the end of January in search of more Northern lights is booked up. A nice cottage on Dunnet Head for a week of photography & adventure is in store with long nights around the wood burning stove, local beer & good friends.

Stormchase USA 2012

I’ll be returning to the plains again next spring & looking to cover 4 weeks. The initial plan date is fly out for the last 2 weeks of May & extend through to the first 2 weeks of June. Dates & further details will be announced closer to the time.
